Montsoreau is located near where the Vienne joins the Loire. The castle is a former military castle. Nearby is a panoramic viewpoint on top of a hill the gives superb views across the flood plains. A couple of miles further south is the superb Fontevraud-l'Abbeye with its links to Richard the Lionheart. Montsoreau is about 30 minutes from here.
