This area is famous for it’s many wines (Saumur, Saumur Champigny, St Nicholas de Bourgueil, Bourgueil and Chinin to name a few regions close to us. These regions are all famous for their red wines but there are also lots of white wines and rose which are nice on a hot summers day. The other wine speciality of the region is sparkling wine with producers like Gratien and Mayer, Louis de Grenelle, Ladubay, etc in or around Saumur.
Since we have been here we have been introduced to many viticulteurs in the region and we now have an extensive list of places to visit in the various regions. So if you would like to visit some of the vineyards and sample some of the local wines, we are happy to arrange a tour for you where we would take you so you do not have to worry about drinking and driving, and we can organise a trip depending on your wishes.
The Loire Valley is the third largest wine producing area in France and there is a large varity of wines to try. The vineyards are very interesting themselves with some being surrounded by walls to retain the heat from the sun during the night and protect the vines from frost.
A tour to the vineyards is a journey through history in this region so if you would like us to arrange a tour for you just let us know so we can produce an interesting itinery for you.
You can buy wine in many different ways but for sparkling wine it is always best to buy it by the bottle. For red, white and rose you can buy wine by the bottle, bag in box and plastic container.
Buying by the container is the cheapest option if you are happy to bottle the wine yourself. If you buy this way it is best to buy the wine at the end of your holiday and bottle it as soon as possible. Do not be tempted to have a taste or open the container until you are ready to bottle the wine, otherwise you will end up with bottles of vinegar!
